The first Nissan Leaf destined for a customer’s driveway will be delivered today in California. If you can’t be there, you can participate digitally by tuning in to the Nissan Leaf page on Facebook at 1:30 p.m. PST (4:30 EST) today and watch the press conference live from San Francisco. Twitter fans can also get updates from @NissanLEAF and the hashtag #firstLEAF. By the looks of things, the owner has arrived and has checked out the car already.
This doesn’t mean that everything is going according to plan with the nationwide Leaf deliveries. AutoblogGreen reader John L. from Florida sent us an email he claims he got from Nissan:
Hi John, thank you for reserving your Nissan LEAF[TM]. The response to this 100% electric car has been amazing.
Customers in your state will not be able to order until late summer 2011. In the meantime, we are working hard with our partners to further develop the charging infrastructure in your area so your entire ownership experience is of the highest quality.
If you have any other questions, please contact us through our Nissan LEAF live chat or by calling 877-NO-GAS-EV
When Nissan announced the roll-out for the Leaf in the U.S., it said the Leaf would be available in Florida in April 2011. John said there are many angry people who had hoped to begin driving with zero tailpipe emissions sooner rather than later. We’ve asked Nissan what the deal is, and will update this post when we hear back.
