Four killed in series of car wrecks

Four people, including a 16-year-old boy, were killed, and four others were injured yesterday in a deadly series of crashes, according to state police.

Shortly before 3:30 a.m., an Interstate 95 accident in Walpole caused one of two cars to flip over, killing the 20-year-old driver, Ashley Valente, said Lt. David Wilson.

Her passenger in the 2004 Toyota, Kayla Tolentino, was taken to a local hospital, Wilson said.

No one in the other car, a 2005 Chrysler, was injured, he said.

The cause of the crash is under investigation, Wilson said. He did not know whether any of the people were wearing seat belts at the time.

Less than two hours later, a 2008 Hyundai Elantra driven by a 29-year-old woman was headed the wrong way on Interstate 91 South in Longmeadow when it collided head-on with a 2006 Cadillac driven by a 63-year-old man, Wilson said.

Both were fatally injured, he said, declining to release their names because their families had not yet been notified.

The cause of that crash is also under investigation, Wilson said.

About 9 a.m. yesterday, a 1992 Jeep driven by a 16-year-old boy rolled over on Route 24 North in Fall River, fatally injuring him, Wilson said.

Police are also withholding his name until his family can be notified.

The road was icy at the time, Wilson said.

Shortly after 11 a.m., a 1999 Chevy Prism rolled over on Route 24 in Brockton, seriously injuring the 25-year-old driver, he said.

Her passengers, an 8-year-old and a 9-year-old, were also injured, Wilson said.

All three were rushed to Good Samaritan Hospital and then flown to a Boston hospital, he said.

The cause of the crash was under investigation, Wilson said, declining to release their names.
