Skoda has officially kicked off production of a ten-vehicle trial fleet of its first-ever electric automobile, the Octavia Green E Line. Skoda says that production of the Octavia E Line represents the automaker’s next step in its, “continued efforts to reduce emissions and consumption levels throughout the company.”
The Octavia Green E Line is based on Skoda’s series-production Octavia Estate. The electric wagon is powered by a 114-horsepower Chevy Spark EV shows off its 114-hp electric motor [w/video]” href=”http://autohello.com/chevy-spark-ev-shows-off-its-114-hp-electric-motor-wvideo/”>motor that cranks out 199 pound-feet of torque aided by a 26.5-kWh lithium-ion battery pack. The Green E Line gets up to 60 miles per hour in a leisurely 12 seconds and tops out at a highway-capable 84 mph. With a range of 87 miles, Skoda’s electric wagon doesn’t seem to be a breakthrough vehicle in the battery-powered segment, but we nonetheless applaud the automaker’s efforts.
The Octavia Green E Line will hit the streets this fall, with data collected by trial drivers to be used by Skoda for “continued research and development” in electric vehicle technology.
